Jonas Tofterup MW’s journey in the wine industry began with a Bachelor’s degree in Food Science and Technology, complemented by achieving WSET Level 3 in Wines & Spirits. Before joining the Vinifera program, Jonas gained valuable practical experience through three internships at wineries during harvest and spent a year working for the largest wine bottling facility in Denmark.
Graduating from Vinifera in 2012 after completing his M2 studies in Hochschule Geisenheim University, Jonas focused his master thesis on “Evaluating the impact of Torulaspora delbrueckii on malolactic fermentation and wine aroma.”
Currently, Jonas serves as the Export Director and Winemaker at Bodegas Trenza, based in Malaga. Bodegas Trenza, a first-generation family business owned by Jonas and his brother, produces approximately 1 million bottles per year and exports to over 20 countries.
In addition to his work at Bodegas Trenza, Jonas is the Owner and Teacher at Iberian Wine Academy in Malaga. Here, he shares his expertise by teaching WSET Level 2 & 3 courses and preparing MW students.
Reflecting on the impact of the Vinifera program on his career, Jonas states, “The Vinifera program made it much easier to work in the wine industry abroad. Professionals in the industry see a huge advantage in having studied in a number of different countries.”
