Mario de la Fuente Lloreda

Agricultural engineer (2004) and PhD in Crop Production (Viticulture) for the UPM (2009), former lecturer in viticulture subjects; orchads, fruit and arable crops, irrigation,etc. (Catholic University of Avila) and R&D (manager of national and international projects of agro-food companies) and quality management during 4 years. He was also, the former Head of Unit “viticulture” at the OIV (2014-2018), being in charge of scientific and technical works; drafting technical dossiers; elaboration of protocols and international standards bellowing to Viticulture area.

He is the President of the Viticulture Commission at OIV (2024), and a member of the Spanish delegation of the OIV (MAPA). He was the former president of PROTEC Expert Group (viticultural techniques and vine protection; 2018-2024) and national delegate of SUSTAIN (Sustainable Development and Climate Change. Also, he was the President of R&D group at the Comité Europeen des Enterprises du Vin (CEEV; 2022-2025) in Brussels.

Author of more than 40 scientific and technical knowledge-transferring publications worldwide, mainly in viticulture area, as well as member of scientific committees for Congress (OIV, ISHS) or institutional entities (CST member of Institute Français de la Vigne et du Vin; IFV; CERVIM) and reviewer of agricultural or viticulture journals.

Finally, he participated in 20 R&D international projects (leading one InterREG Sudoe, participating in H2020, Horizon Europe, Life, etc. projects ) on key topics in viticulture as climate change, traceability of plant material, grapevine diseases, biodiversity and preservation of genetic material, utilisation of natural resources, etc.

Vinifera Teaching:

As an assistant professor and researcher at the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM) in Ecophisiolgy and Crop production, Viticulture and wine areas, he also participate as an external professor in Ms Viteno (UPM) and Ms Vinifera-EU (EMavE, Montpellier SupAgro)
He participates in the Ecology and Physiology module, giving a lectures about vine clima (enviromental factors afecting the grapevine).
Also, he usually collaborates with other public (University of Leon; ULE) and private universities in master’s, summer courses (UCM, UFM), etc, in viticulture and oenology topics.

Research interests:

As a researcher, he was involvded in 20 R&D international projects from several programs and calls, mostly focused on viticulture topics. He was also, the scientific coordinator of a European project of the InterREG Sudoe programme (COPPEREPLACE, 2020-2023) in copper application in organic viticulture.

Current lines: Grapevine agronomic and physiology characterization in semiarid conditions. Grapevine microclimate and physiology for different training systems. Agroecology and soil vineyard management. Precision Viticulture.
